Arthur Sloan
Arthur is a native of Belfast, born in Ballymacarrett in 1965. He joined Isherwood + Ellis in 1982 before completing a BSc Hons Degree and Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Architectural Studies at Queens University Belfast. He returned and worked as a Project Architect from 1994, becoming an Associate in 1997 and a Partner in 1998.
He has played a major role in the development and management of the practice’s education portfolio over the last 30 years including nursery, primary secondary and third level projects. His experience and drive has helped to secure Isherwood + Ellis’ reputation as one of the most experienced practices in the NI education sector.
Arthur was a guest speaker at an international symposium hosted by Queens University Belfast, on the Impact & Potential of Shared Education, presenting the Practice’s work in developing an Exemplar Design for the 6-School ‘Strule Shared Education Campus,’ on the site of the former Lisanelly Army Barracks, Omagh. He oversaw the delivery of Arvalee SEN School, as the first phase of Strule SEC.
In Sept 2018, Arthur was one of three Architects invited to present at the RIBAJ PIP Education Seminar at RIBA HQ Portland Place London. He delivered a case study on Castle Tower School Ballymena, one of the largest Schools for pupils with Special Educational Needs in the UK and an award winner in the RSUA & RIBA NI Design Awards 2018.
