Karen Hawkshaw

Karen is a Senior Architect in the Planning and Building Unit of the Department of Education. She has worked in education design for more than 20 years, with a focus on special school design, inclusive schools and campus projects. Karen has a leading role on Programme Innovate. This new delivery programme will deliver a portfolio of over 30 large-scale new schools over the next 5 years, including several aspirational education campus projects. She is committed to promoting inclusive design, engaging school users in the design process and working with design teams to create the best possible learning environments.
