Martin G O'Brien
Martin has served as Principal of Bush Post Primary School and later as Chief Executive of Sligo VEC, Monaghan VEC, Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board and in 2016 was appointed Chief Executive of Louth and Meath Education and Training Board (LMETB). Martin oversees approximately 3,000 staff with annual budget of €250 million, serving a population of circa 235,000. LMETB has over 12,000 students at first and second level, almost 3,000 full-time Further Education (FE) learners, 1,000 apprentices and 25,000 part-time FET learners who benefit from education and training services delivered across the two counties.
In 2021, Martin led the establishment of LMETB’s Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre of Excellence (AMTCE) in Dundalk. Since then, the building has undergone a complete refurbishment and fit out and has recently won the fit out and refurbishment category at the Irish Construction Excellence Awards.
AMTCE is one of the global leaders in advanced manufacturing skill training for the current and future manufacturing workforce and is the largest of its type in the EU. In terms of building design and courses on offer AMTCE brings Further Education and Training to a new level in Ireland.
